2017 Chisholm Volunteer Awards and 2017 Chisholm Volunteer of the Year

More than 40 local volunteers across the Chisholm electorate were awarded 2017 Chisholm Volunteer Awards at an Award ceremony hosted at Crossway in Burwood East on June 8th 2017.

Julia Banks MP, Federal Member for Chisholm and the Foreign Minister of Australia, the Honourable

Julie Bishop MP presented the awards at a warm and embracing ceremony which recognised the important and valuable contribution of volunteers across Chisholm and Australia.

The award recipients come from a diverse range of Chisholm volunteer organisations and attendees were entertained by a choir from Koonung Secondary College who opened the ceremony by leading the National Anthem.

“The energy, expertise and time our volunteers give to our communities support those most in need and represent what Australian communities are all about—giving a helping hand.” Ms Banks said

“I am so proud to be part of a Turnbull government which is ensuring that our local volunteer organisations in Chisholm will have this support to continue their valuable work.”

“The attendance of the Foreign Minister is a testament to the contribution of all our Chisholm volunteers, and the way the Turnbull Governments wishes to publicly recognise the large contribution made by volunteers”, Ms Banks said.

Mr Trevor Eddy from Burke & Beyond and Greenlink Box Hill Inc. has been named the 2017 Chisholm Volunteer of the Year.

Mr Eddy was nominated by Burke & Beyond (which provides an important inclusive and supportive environment for individuals of all abilities) in Blackburn South and Greenlink Box Hill in Box Hill North for his outstanding dedication to both organisations and the local community.

“Mr Eddy exemplifies Australian citizenship, and was nominated twice for a Chisholm Volunteer Award, testament to his outstanding contribution across the Chisholm area.” Ms Banks said.

“I have had the immense pleasure of meeting Mr Eddy in his role as Chairperson of Burke & Beyond and witnessed firsthand his incredible gift of compassion and civic responsibility” Ms Banks said.

“All the winners are so incredibly deserving of these awards as nominated by other members in the Chisholm community and Mr Eddy has been such a significant volunteer contributor over many years and is a well-deserved winner of the Inaugural Chisholm Volunteer of the Year Award” Ms Banks said.

“I am so proud to be part of a Turnbull Government which is ensuring that our local volunteer organisations in Chisholm will have this support to continue their valuable work.”

“The attendance of the Foreign Minister is a testament to the contribution of all our Chisholm volunteers, and the way the Turnbull Government wishes to publicly recognise the large contribution made by volunteers”, Ms Banks said.
