Julia Banks MP, Federal Member for Chisholm, together with the Minister for Revenue and Financial Services, Minister for Women and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service, the Honourable Kelly O’Dwyer MP, Federal Member for Higgins, represented the Prime Minister the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP at the 31st Lonsdale St Greek Festival in Melbourne.
The Lonsdale St Greek Festival, also known as the Antipodes Festival, is the largest celebration of Hellenic culture outside of Greece and is held annually in Melbourne’s Greek precinct. For years, people from across Melbourne including from suburbs in Chisholm have enjoyed spending this weekend in February attending this long held celebratory event.
Ms Banks has always spoken of her immense pride in her Greek heritage.
“I am extremely proud to be the Chair of the Federal Parliamentary Friends of Greece and as an Australian with Greek migrant heritage, it is fantastic to see Hellenic culture celebrated so proudly today and vibrantly, as always”, Ms Banks said.
“In Greek culture, family is the first and absolute priority. Celebrating within the context of Greek traditions and cultural events, such as this wonderful Antipodes Festival in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, is a real joy”, Ms Banks said.
Ms Banks thanked the organisers, the Greek Community of Melbourne, for continuing to hold this spectacular event which she described as a fine example of the Greek diaspora across Australia.
