Ms Julia Banks MP, Federal Member for Chisholm, and Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Julie Bishop MP announce 2018 Chisholm Volunteer Awards and 2018 Chisholm Volunteer of the Year

75 local volunteers across the Chisholm electorate were awarded 2018 Chisholm Volunteer Awards at an award ceremony hosted at Huntingtower School in Mount Waverley on August 17 2018.

Julia Banks MP, Federal Member for Chisholm and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Julie Bishop MP presented the awards at a warm and embracing ceremony which recognised the important and valuable contribution of volunteers across Chisholm and Australia. The Foreign Minister and Julia Banks MP also officially opened Huntingtower School’s new Performing Arts Centre – the venue for the Chisholm Volunteer Awards.

The award recipients come from a diverse range of Chisholm volunteer organisations, and attendees were entertained by the Huntingtower Choir who led the National Anthem.
“The energy, expertise and time our volunteers give to our communities support those most in need and represent what Australian communities are all about—giving a helping hand”, Ms Banks said.

“I am so proud to be part of a government which is ensuring that our local volunteer organisations in Chisholm will have this support to continue their valuable work.”

“The attendance of the Foreign Minister is a testament to the contribution of all our Chisholm volunteers, and the way the Turnbull Government wishes to publicly recognise the large contribution made by volunteers”, Ms Banks said.

Ms Yvonne Putz from Eastern Volunteers has been named the 2018 Chisholm Volunteer of the Year.

Ms Putz was nominated by Eastern Volunteers (which empowers the community through active engagement) for her outstanding dedication to supporting the local community, including 19 years on Eastern Volunteers’ Board of Management.

“Ms Putz is an outstanding individual, and her nomination for a Chisholm Volunteer Award is testament to her outstanding contribution across the Chisholm area”, Ms Banks said.

“I was delighted to be joined by Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Julie Bishop MP to recognise
Yvonne as the 2018 Chisholm Volunteer of the Year”, Ms Banks said.
“All the winners are so incredibly deserving of these awards as nominated by other members in the Chisholm community and Ms Putz has been such a significant volunteer contributor for nearly two decades and is a well-deserved winner of the ‘Chisholm Volunteer of the Year Award’”, Ms Banks said.
